Where the information comes from
Every VIN Passport combines government title and recall records, licensed auction and dealer-listing history, and records from people who have seen the car. Safety recalls, specs and the newest photos and records from the WIN by VIN network are included free in every passport. The title brand check (where it is available for the VIN), auction history, dealer listings and older network records are included in the $39 full report.

What's free and what's in the full report
Every line of a report shows what kind of record it is, so you can always see what you're looking at.
- Free for every VIN: safety recalls; vehicle specs; 5 newest photos & records; vin grade, buyer checklist and what's missing. A reported title brand is a warning and is always shown free.
- Full report ($39): title brand check, where available; auction history and sale photos; dealer listing history; every photo, odometer reading and record on file; printable report, share link and alerts.
- Each VIN's report shows the state of its title check: on file, not checked yet (runs when you unlock), no record in the title database, temporarily unavailable, or not available. Only a check that can actually run, or a result already on file, is listed as something the full report adds.
- Buying a report never buys a better grade and never hides a warning; the grade only moves when evidence changes. Before you pay, the free report shows how many of each record type the full report adds for that VIN.
Limits of the data
No database sees everything. Not every accident, repair or sale is reported anywhere. Older vehicles may have thinner title history. Recall data is listed by make, model and year, so confirm repair status with a dealer.
When a check hasn't been completed for a vehicle, the passport says “not checked” rather than suggesting the car is clean.
Records from people
Photos, inspections, service records and notes come from verified owners, shops, inspectors and other contributors. Each record shows who supplied it and when, and counts toward the grade according to how strong the source is: credentialed inspectors and verified shops count most, unverified contributors least.
Documents read by software
Documents you upload may be read by software to find VINs, dates, mileage and amounts. What it finds is marked as unconfirmed, shown separately, and doesn't count toward the grade until a person confirms it. We keep the original file and a record of how it was read so it can be checked later.
When sources disagree
We show both versions, lower the grade and cap it at C until new evidence settles the question. We never quietly pick a winner.
